Hippie town Boulder

3-generation lunch at the Boulder Creek Festival
In the 60s and 70s, Boulder was a Mecca for hippies.  Since then, Boulder has attracted a more yuppie resident, but we are learning that the original hippies are still here and their presence is felt with some force.  Today we went to the Boulder Creek Fall Festival (with mum and dad, who pre-date the hippies). Alongside home-made root beer, lemonade and hot dogs, there were stalls selling fair trade African baskets, tie die maxi dresses and thong sandals.

We could have indulged in psychic relaxation, spinal adjustment and meditation but instead we watched a 60s tribute band playing ‘Smoke on the Water’, where the aging hippies really came into their own and truly danced as if no one was watching.  When I saw the hula hoops, I couldn’t resist joining them (see link).

    1. Yes. It certainly was a 'is this really happening?' moment, esp with mum and dad in attendance.

    2. It's completely amazing. And hilarious seeing all those old hippies. You're a good hula-hooper!
